The time has come to refill your list of movies and shows that will be available to binge-watch on Netflix. Here are the biggest releases for July.
Netflix: New Shows And Movies Coming This July. Netflix is continuing its quest to try and destroy the domination of TV Networks over the entertainment industry. In this regard, they are kind of like a rebellion and the old fashioned networks are similar to an empire. We are thinking in these terms because of a certain Rogue One that is being added to the service this month, which will overshadow everything else that is unlucky enough to also debut in July.

- Funny Comedy Movies for 10 Year Olds. If you have ten year olds, you know they love to laugh. At their age suggestive humor should probably be avoided, so go for some.
This doesn’t mean that you should only watch the one film, however, as a lot of great content will be coming to Netflix over the next few weeks. We are here today to give our recommendations for the best new movies and TV shows that are being added to Netflix this month. From the return of the Belmont family to nostalgic favorites to the rebellion that started it all, here are the 1. Best New Shows And Movies Coming To Netflix This July.
Castlevania. Konami has been ignoring the Castlevania series of late after the last game in the series (Lords of Shadow 2) was a commercial and critical letdown. The franchise isn’t quite dead, however, as the animation studio behind Adventure Time has created a four episode Castlevania series for Netflix, which is written by Warren Ellis (best known for his work at Marvel Comics) and is based on the third game in the series. Castlevania promises to be dark and violent, with the producers listing Game of Thrones as one of the chief inspirations behind the series.
The fact that the series is inspired by the third Castlevania game also means we will be seeing the other awesome characters from that game, such as Alucard, Sypha, and Grant the Thief. This means that there should be a lot more to the series than just the Belmont family of vampire hunters and their war against Dracula, though this alone is going to be awesome to see on the screen. Castlevania will be debuting on Netflix on July 7th. Ozark. Jason Bateman is the first person who directors go to when they want a “nice guy” actor, who preferably needs to have nice hair and be completely unthreatening. He is basically the American version of Martin Freeman.
It seems that Jason Bateman wants to escape from all of this typecasting, however, and play a bad guy on the screen for once. Ozark is a show about a financial planner, named Marty Byrde (played by Bateman) who relocates to a summer resort near the Ozarks in Missouri.
He was previously involved in a money laundering scheme that went wrong, which left him millions of dollars in debt to a drug cartel. Byrde has to relocate his family to a region that is as remote as possible, in order to keep them safe while he deals with his debts. It’s going to be interesting to see Jason Bateman outside of his comfort zone and taking on more of an action role for once. Ozark looks like it is going to be a far more interesting take on the subject matter that was squandered in Lilyhammer. Ozark will debut on Netflix on July 2.
Police Academy. The first Police Academy movie is one of the best comedy films of the ’8. We have to stress that only the first Police Academy movie was great, as the series declined in quality with each new entry.
The seventh movie in the franchise, Mission to Moscow, killed the series, and it has yet to be rebooted. Police Academy is one of the best ensemble comedies of the ’8.
The real reason to watch Police Academy is Michael Winslow’s performance as Larvelle Jones, aka “the guy who does the noises.”His appearance in Police Academy is what helped to propel his career, and he still gets regular talk show & radio interviews where he spends all of his time doing noises. That’s not to say that the rest of the cast aren’t great, however, as Police Academy‘s strength lies in the amazing comedic performances across the board. Police Academy debuted on Netflix on the 1st of July and can be watched right now. To The Bone. Netflix acquired the distribution rights to a film called To the Bone, which has already been causing controversy due to its touchy subject matter. To the Bone is a movie about a girl who suffers from anorexia and is sent to live in a group home. The movie has already come under fire for supposedly glorifying anorexia by having a glamorous celebrity as its lead. To the Bone is supposed to be an inspirational movie about overcoming eating disorders and talking frankly about the reasons why people develop them in the first place.
Lily Collins plays the lead, where she is treated by a doctor, who is played by Keanu Reeves. While To the Bone has been accused by some for glamorising anorexia, it has also been praised by others for its honest depiction of people with eating orders, and its ability to give hope to those who may be suffering from them. To The Bone will debut on Netflix on July 1.
The Incredible Jessica James. There are some roles that were written with specific actors in mind, as was the case with Bill Murray in Lost In Translation. The Incredible Jessica James is another case where a movie was created specifically to showcase someone’s talent to Hollywood, and your enjoyment of the film will depend on how much you like the leading lady. The Incredible Jessica James is a comedy movie, starring Jessica Williams, who is best known for being a Daily Show correspondent. This film was made to show off her comedic chops and the enthusiastic energy that she brings to her performance. The premise of the movie is hardly anything new, as it is about a woman trying to make it as a writer in New York City while also trying to juggle her love life. It is Williams’ performance that sells the movie, and her screen presence will ultimately determine whether this film is for you.
The Incredible Jessica James is coming to Netflix on the 2. July. 1. 0. Titanic. Does the Titanic even need an introduction? It is the second- highest grossing movie of all time (though this number was boosted by a 3. D re- release of the film) and won eleven academy awards. There is a strong chance that you have seen this movie already… and now you can watch it again on Netflix.
Titanic is often considered to be one of the best romantic movies of all time. It is the story of love that has to cross the boundaries of class warfare… while the biggest ship ever made sinks in the background. Titanic was the most expensive movie ever made when it was released and it shows, as it has some of the best action scenes of its era. Just try not to dwell too much on the whole “why didn’t Jack get on the raft with Rose, there was plenty of room” argument. Titanic debuted on Netflix on July 1st and can be watched right now.
The Worst Witch. The Harry Potter series has been accused of plagiarism on several occasions, to the point where J. K. Rowling has been taken to court. The truth is that the premise of a school for wizards and witches had been done numerous times before– Harry Potter just did it the best. The Worst Witch is based on a series of books that were first released in the ’7. TV and movie adaptations in the past. This version of The Worst Witch is a co- production between CBBC and Netflix. The show follows a witch named Mildred Hubble, who is played by Bella Ramsey. You might recognize this actress from Game of Thrones, where she played the fearsome Lyanna Mormont.
If you have kids who love the Harry Potter franchise and need a new fix of British wizarding schools, then they will love this show. The only downside is that it doesn’t feature the incredible Tim Curry cameo and song from the 1. The Worst Witch movie. The Worst Witch will debut on Netflix on July 2.
The Land Before Time. Disney has slowly been gobbling up all of the biggest properties in the entertainment industry for a while now. However, there was once a time when a single man opposed the company and it seemed as if he had the creativity to topple the kingdom of the mouse. His name was Don Bluth and he made some of the greatest animated films of all time.
The Land Before Time is one of them. How To Watch Top Cat Begins Online.
Highly Suspect Reviews. Hosts: An Ever- Rotating Lineup of OOU. Net’s Unusual Suspects.
That’s right, your favorite geek conglomerate website is now doing audio movie reviews! The cast of reviewers is subject to change even movie to movie, we have a whole rogues gallery of cinema outlaws, but one thing you can always count on is that these funny and insightful film reviews will always be, in some way, Highly Suspect. Twin Peaks The Return: The Final Three Episodes. It’s been a great ride but now it’s done, as Chris, Ian, Betty, and Scott talk about the last three episodes in Twin Peaks Season 3, their Grand Unified Twin Peaks theories, and feelings overall about the season. ITIT is here. IT is what you have been waiting for. IT is the IT movie of the…erm…post- summer. IT is where IT’S at.
I could go on like this all day and keep annoying all of you but the upshot is, we loved the hell out of this new adaptation of Stephen King’s coulrophobic novel. Listen to Chris, Patience, Phil, Beau, and Marco rave on. Game of Thrones Season 7. Review is Here. The Game of Thrones Season 7 review, that is. We talk about all the ups and downs of this penultimate adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s sublime fantasy series.
Oh yeah, and we also make predictions for season 8. Check out Chris, Beau, Harris, Cat, and Kim giving this topic their best geek- out. The Defenders Season 1. All of Netflix’s superhero shows finally collide together at the end of their Phase 1 in The Defenders, as the implausibly long- awaited team- up between Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage happens. Together, they fight The Hand (immortal ninjas), Elektra, and Sigourney Weaver as the evil(ish) head of the long- lived organization.
But, after all this time did it live up to the hype? Chris, Zach, Elliott, Kyle, and Ian give their takes on the show. Twin Peaks Episodes 1. Peaksians rejoice! The answers are finally arriving.
I mean, in that Lynchy way. And we love it. We especially loved these last two episodes and it makes for a fitful discussion of what we’ve learned and what appears about to happen as we head into the final stretch.
Logan Lucky. Getting so you can’t trust anyone in Hollywood who says they’re ‘retired’ anymore. Steven Soderberg only took a five year break from directing films after his announcement before he came back but it seems like we’re all happy about it regardless. His latest, Logan Lucky, is a southern- boys heist comedy film starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough, Daniel Craig and more which sounds like exactly the ticket for a quality commercial Soderberg vehicle.
But, some of us were more crazy for this than others. Listen to Chris, George, and Marco give their reports. Good Time. NYC has often been visualized as a fantasy land, a nightmarish landscape, or even hell itself, and the film Good Time definitely puts the city into the ‘almost a character in the film itself’ category.
Robert Pattinson (yes, that one) has a brother who is mentally handicapped but he refuses to admit there’s anything wrong with him. When he makes him go on a bank robbery with him, his brother is captured by the police and Robert spends a hellish night desperately looking for any solution as a way to free his brother. Directors Ben and Josh Safdie have created something really unique here and kind of insane. Even as it reminds one of Dog Day Afternoon or After Hours, it’s so clearly its own thing. But, that Movie Movbeing said, some people liked it a whole lot more than others. Listen to Frank and Chris hash it out.
Ingrid Goes West. Ingrid (Aubrey Plaza) is a bit on the obsessive side. To put it mildly. She’s seriously into fantasizing about having a friendship with an Instagram influencer (Elizabeth Olsen) who lives on the other side of the country. So she packs up and moves out there to insinuate herself into her life and then, of course, everything will be wonderful when she is besties with such a wonderful lady!
Or not. Yes, things go deeply wrong for Ingrid’s best laid crazy plans but deeply right for those watching this film, also starring great performances by O’Shea Jackson Jr and Wyatt Russell. Chris and Richard give you what you need to know. The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Darius Kincaid (Samuel Jackson) is one of the world’s deadliest hitmen, now captured by Interpol and agreeing to give evidence against a despotic Eastern European ruler (Gary Oldman). But Interpol has a mole inside and can’t protect him on their own.
That’s when agent Rousell (Élodie Yung) calls in her estranged ex- boyfriend Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds), a top- notch bodyguard (but one currently dealing with career issues) to protect him. Problem: Kincaid and Bryce have a history of trying to kill each other. Advantage: goes to the audience who love the old mis- matched buddy action comedies back when they used to be fun. Chris, Lara, Elliott, and Frank give you the low- down on this love- letter to films like Lethal Weapon. The Glass Castle.
The writer/director of the often overlooked (but wonderful) Short Term 1. Brie Larson again to tell the story of the seriously dysfunctional Walls family. Woody Harrelson is an optimistic drunk and Naomi Watts is a kooky artist and they’re not so great as the parental units in this nomadic tribe they have together. Switching back and forth in time, Brie Larson plays the older version of their child Jeannette who has to deal with her nonconformist parents still, a yuppie fiance, and her writing. Sounds complicated, right? Well, Elliott, Lara, and Frank explain it to you. Brigsby Bear. Imagine if your whole world wasn’t what you thought it was.
You were raised living in an underground shelter by your ‘parents’ who had weird rules and rituals and had created an entire alternate reality for you, even creating a children’s tv show for you to watch (that as far as you know was the ONLY show) that you became completely obsessed with. Now, imagine that world ending as you realize they are A: not your real parents, B: that is not the real world, and C: Brigsby Bear (the TV show in question) was entirely created for an audience of one…you. That’s the set- up of this warm and funny comedy that Chris, Richard, and George are all calling one of the best of the year. Check out their review here. Wind River. The writer of Sicario and Hell or High Water shows up to script AND direct this new film featuring Jeremy Renner as a bad- ass hunter up in the frozen climes of Wyoming on an Native American reservation. He teams up with a noob FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) to solve the murder of a young girl.
It’s a slow burn but boy does it explode into some serious firecracker stuff in that third act. Chris, George, and Lara give you the scoop. Annabelle: Creation. After Ouija 2 did everything right that Ouija 1 did terribly wrong, I thought to myself, “Self…maybe that’s exactly what Blumhouse is going to do with Annabelle 2“. Cause, you know, that first one ain’t exactly The Conjuring, despite being a spin- off of it.
Hell, it’s barely worthy of an Asylum rip- off of the idea. So, lo and behold they got director David F Sandberg, fresh off his win with Lights Out, to come on board and try to save this sinking ship with a period- piece prequel film (much like how they saved Ouija 2). Does it work? I mean, sometimes. It’s definitely freakin’ Citizen Kane compared to the first. Listen to Chris, Patience, and JC tell you all about it. Twin Peaks Episodes 1. The gang is all back to discuss the weirdnesses and brilliance of the latest two episodes of David Lynch’s, Twin Peaks: The Return (aka Season 3).
Detroit. Man, what do you say about this? That Katheryn Bigelow better start picking out her Oscar dress now?
That people are going to come away from this true story set during the Detroit riots of 1. That Will Poulter better stay inside for a few months until folks can set their emotions back in order after seeing this?
